The golf course at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge is a historic wilderness 9-hole golf course designed using the Keweenaw terrain.

[ Nature-focused ]

We are a historic wilderness golf course, not a golf course in the wilderness — so expect the course to be maintained in-line with the history of golf and along the lines of the natural landscape of the rugged Keweenaw. Maintenance of the golf course, being inline with nature, takes priority over the preferences of the modern day golfer.  There is minimal man-made items on the golf course. For example, there are no signs on the golf course (except for a safety sign near hole 8 tee box), and no tee markers on the tee boxes (golfers choose where to hit on each hole’s tee box).

While appearances are not guaranteed, you will share the golf course with wildlife. Our summer residents include the sandhill cranes, our little fox families, the turkey, the chipmunks, and of course, the deer. These animals allow us to play on their turf.

As part of our historic wilderness golf course focus and getting cabin guests closer to nature, we are moving towards being a hickory only and walking only golf course by 2028.

The golf course is available for lodging guests only. Tee times are required – no same day tee times. Make tee times via email, via phone, or in person. The earliest time golfers can start their round is 9am, with the last tee time on a given day being 5pm. Tee times are on the half hour (i.e. 30 minutes between each tee time). All golfers must have their round completed by 7pm

[ There are special days for non-lodging guests to play the golf course.  Learn more. ]

[ We are different style of golf course; it is your responsibility to understand the golf course terms and conditions ]

We encourage walking, and have pull-carts available. You can also rent electric carts if you want to ride. Golf clubs are available for rent if you do not want to bring your own clubs.

In Spring (May) and Fall (September | October) we have geese join us on the golf course. They are migrating north and south during those time periods. Usually golf courses want to remove the geese. However, we have taken a different approach, being that we are wilderness focused. Below is an infographic that explains the geese more and how we co-exist with them.

* Weather dependent: we do not open early or extend the season. By “dependent on weather” we mean that if it were to snow in October we might close the course before October 15th; however, we do not extend the golf season past October 15th.

Note: We do not use 3rd party websites for providing information about the golf course at the Lodge.  The information found on this website is information that is up to date about the golf course.
