Golf Course Terms and Conditions

Below you will find the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge’s (KML) golf course policies, including our terms and conditions for golfers to be able to play the course.

We are a different golf course, so please read all terms and conditions to understand our historic wilderness golf course. It is your responsibility to read these terms and conditions before you play the golf course.

General Terms and Conditions

Cabin Guests Only: The golf course is for cabin guests only.

[ The exception is on Ocha Potter Days (learn more). ]

Tee Times: It is required that all golfers have a tee time. Tee times are to be made over the phone, via email, or in person. And there are no same day tee times.

[ Tee times for Ocha Potter Days are to be made over the phone ]

The first tee time of the day is at 9am, and the last tee time of the day is at 5pm. All golfers must be off the golf course by 7pm.

Tee times are spaced 20 minutes apart, with no exception. This provides the groups to be spread out appropriately for a wilderness golf course.

At the time of making the tee time, the names of all individuals must be provided and put on the tee sheet, with all individuals in the group being cabin guests (see the definition of a cabin guest in our lodging policies).

Max Tee Time Size: A maximum of 4 people is allowed in a tee time. Playing in a group greater than a 4-some at any given time during the round will result in all members of the group being removed from the golf course immediately.

Pairing Policy: KML reserves the right to amend any tee time, and reserves the right to make all groups into four balls in order to maximize use of the golf course.

No Organized Events / Groups: The KML golf course is not for organized events and groups.

Dress Code: We do not have a strict dress code at this time. We expect golfers to wear appropriate attire that fits a family environment and/or golf-related attire. Any of the following attire may result in refusal of admittance (includes, but not limited to):

  • No tank tops are allowed
  • Clothing which exposes excessive portions of one’s skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment
  • Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics
  • Excessively torn clothing

Payment: Full payment is required before starting your round and is non-transferable or refundable in the event of cancellation. Golfers to be at the tee of the first hole 15 minutes before their allotted tee time. All golfers are expected to play from the 1st tee, unless otherwise instructed by a KML team member.

Golf Carts, Pull Carts: The use of all golf carts and pull carts are subject to weather conditions and is made on a daily basis by our head golf course superintendent. This decision is a basis on creating the best playing conditions for those on the golf course on the day and also the health and safety of those on the golf course.

With the usage of the golf carts, each golfer agrees to return immediately upon completion of play the golf cart he/she used, and do so in the same condition as it was received (normal wear being accepted). Each golfer that rents a cart agrees to pay damages that are sustained to the cart due to the golfer’s use.

The golf carts are not off-road vehicles, and thus should stay within the tree-line or on a designated path. If you are found driving the carts in the woods not on the designated path, you will be given one warning. The second occurrence will warrant taking the cart, and you will finish your round walking.

Golfers agree to hold KML harmless and to defend KML from any and all claims for damages of any nature, whether to myself or others that my arise from or through the use of the golf cart. To drive a golf cart, you must has a valid driver’s license.

No Alcohol: Alcohol is NOT allowed on the golf course. After your round, you can drink alcohol either in your cabin or purchase an alcoholic beverage from the Little Cabin Cafe and drink it in the Lodge building. Or, after your round, you can head to one of the fine establishments in the Keweenaw and take a relaxing drink. There is no tolerance for this, for various reasons, 1) golf is an athletic sport not a drinking sport, and 2) we do not want to police outside alcohol on the golf course (per our liquor license).

The alcohol policy is STRICTLY ENFORCED. If you are caught with alcohol on the golf course, the entire group will be immediately asked to leave the premises, no questions asked.

ALSO, you are not able to bring outside alcohol on property unless you are staying in a cabin, and are drinking in or near the cabin you are staying in. It is state LAW that outside alcohol is not allowed other than in and around the cabin you are staying in.

No Music: No music is allowed on the golf course, as we are a quiet place in the wilderness.

Adding 9-holes to your first 9-holes to complete an 18-hole round of golf: We are a 9-hole golf course. To complete an 18-hole round of golf at the Lodge you can play the course twice for an 18-hole round. You can pay the green fee for 9-holes, and if you decide to play a 2nd nine holes to complete an 18-hole round, you can pay the difference after you finish the first 9 holes.  If you play 9-holes, and then leave the golf course, and come back later in the day to play another 9-holes you will be charged the full 9-hole green fee rate (and cart rental if you rent a cart).

Rain Checks: Rain checks will only be granted during inclement weather conditions. If the golfers have not completed their first hole by the time the weather hits, a rain check will be given to the appropriate golfers. After the first hole has been completed, no rain checks will be permitted.

Lost and Found: Please note that all items are left at KML at your own risk. KML does not accept liability for any items left unattended within any private or public areas of the resort unless a specific request for safekeeping of items has been made to us.

We have the right to remove anyone from the course that is in violation of these terms and conditions, or exhibits inappropriate behavior as deemed by the KML team.
