Current Status:
Acquisition completed on December 12, 2025.
Purpose: This page is setup to be a source of information for the proposed purchase of the 40 acres that is adjacent to the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge and is currently owned by AT&T.
Background
This 40 acre parcel was carved out of the large TRG land holdings in 2020 when TRG sold the smaller parcel to Diamond Tower. Diamond Tower purchased the property to put a 263 foot tower on the property, with AT&T being the main customer for the tower. The tower was not approved, and Diamond Tower transferred the 40 acres to AT&T. With the 40 acre parcel adjacent to land owned by the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge owner, and also surrounded by the Nature Conservancy property (TNC purchased the land around 3 sides of the 40 acres from TRG in October 2022), it made sense for the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge owner to acquire the 40 acres.
Legal description of property: The Northeast 1/4 of the Northeast 1/4 of Section 1, Town 58 North, Range 29 West, Township of Eagle Harbor, Keweenaw County, Michigan. Commonly known as 1764 Diamond Tower Road, Eagle Harbor, Michigan 49950, Tax Parcel No. 202-01-202-000.
When the property was owned by TRG, it was in the commercial forest (CF) program. Diamond Towers bought the 40 acres from TRG, and kept it in the CF program. When the property was transferred to AT&T, they also kept the property in the CF program (by default).
