Keweenaw Mountain Lodge welcomes Guests Year-Round — by Reservation, and Under the Stars

Copper Harbor, Michigan, July 23, 2026 — Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, the historic wilderness resort established in 1934 at the northern tip of Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula, is open year-round to cabin guests, with a standing nightly welcome for stargazers. The Lodge is a private property, and daytime visits are reserved for guests holding a lodging reservation made in advance.

The Lodge hosts guests through all four seasons — summer hiking and golf, autumn color, winter snow, and spring thaw — and its cabins, grounds, trails, and amenities are set aside for those staying on site. Between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., the Lodge is unable to host visitors without a lodging reservation, and those who arrive will be kindly directed to the many public lands and trailheads nearby.

Open to the stars from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Keweenaw Mountain Lodge serves as headquarters for the Keweenaw Dark Sky Park, and that role carries a standing invitation. Each night from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m., stargazers are welcome on the property without a lodging reservation to observe the darkest skies in the region — the Milky Way, meteor showers, and, on active nights, the aurora borealis.

Night-sky visitors are asked to respect the quiet of guests staying on site, to keep white light to a minimum in favor of red-filtered headlamps, and to park and observe in designated areas.

The lodging reservation model reflects the Lodge’s setting and its commitments. Situated on hundreds of acres of managed forest and open ground in one of the most remote corners of the Upper Peninsula, the property supports sensitive habitat and ongoing environmental stewardship work, including participation in the Audubon International Golf Course Sanctuary Program. Hosting registered guests allows the Lodge to foster that landscape, maintain the quiet character visitors travel a long way to find, and ensure that everyone on the grounds is accounted for in a place where services are distant and conditions change quickly.

Outside the nightly stargazing window, this applies in every season and across the property, including the cabins, the historic nine-hole wilderness golf course, and the surrounding grounds and trails. The Lodge asks that day visitors plan ahead and book, so it can offer them a proper welcome.

A culture built from the bottom up

The way the Lodge hosts people grows out of a core value structure adopted during the ownership and leadership change several years ago, when the team set out to build a culture worth being proud of and one that would hold up over time.
