The Snowshoe Hare at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge is an event celebrating snowshoeing in the Keweenaw. The event’s focus is on education through guided and interpretative snowshoe hikes and inside presentations. This is a free activity for lodging guests and $10 for the general public, reservations are recommended.
Snowshoe Activities:

- Access to over 10 km of trails for snowshoeing.
- A guided Snowshoe Adventure to the top of Brockway Mountain.
- Iverson Snowshoes demos.
- Ecology and history presentations.
Schedule:
9:30am – Guided Snowshoe Adventure – Join the OAC Team for an educational snowshoe adventure. Possibilities for the route include snowshoeing trails to the top of the ridge on Brockway Mountain.
1:30pm – History of Snowshoeing – presentation Jim Baker of Iverson Snowshoes (in the Banquet Room).
3:00pm – Ecology/Nature presentation 8:30pm
History of Snowshoeing: Jim Baker from Iverson Snowshoes will give a presentation about snowshoes and snowshoeing in the past and in the present. Topics will include an overview of historical methods and practices, early modernization developments, and current trends in the making of snowshoes and their uses as tools for survival, utility, recreation, and decoration. The presentation will go over styles of snowshoes and their applications as well as methods of making both modern and traditional versions including a detailed description of Iverson’s process of making them right here in the Upper Peninsula.
